People are more likely to develop certain allergies at a specific age. For instance, food allergies are prevalent in small children, who are just getting their first exposure to different foods. As they grow older, they gain exposure to other protein allergens, perhaps even developing pollen allergies. If your child begins to display allergic symptoms to pollen or spores, don’t rule out a true allergic reaction simply because he or she previously displayed no indications of a non-food allergy.

Skin tests can detect the presence of an allergy, but they are far less useful for predicting how severe the reaction will be when you encounter the allergen in the real world. For instance, the skin test may reveal that you are sensitive to a spore that is common in your region. It’s possible that you could experience only mild symptoms in response to allergens, or maybe no symptoms at all.

Suffering from allergies does not necessarily mean that you have to give up exercising outdoors. Work out later in the evening or earlier in the morning during seasons with high pollen counts. Pollen levels are highest in the period between late morning and early evening; stay indoors during these times and you can avoid high concentrations of these allergens.

It is possible to get many types of allergy and antihistamine medications on an over the counter basis, though such products are not effective for everyone. Therefore, ask for a sample from your doctor or buy a trial size pack of antihistamines to see if it is one right for you. This will give you an idea of whether or not the product will work for you. If it doesn’t, you have not invested a lot of money.

There are lots of allergy medications available, some are sold over the counter and others are available only with a doctor’s prescription. You can buy a small size or ask your physician to give you a sample. If that particular product does not alleviate your allergic symptoms, you can move onto the next one without throwing away your money.

Tear out your carpeting. Putting in hardwood floors instead of having carpet will ensure that no allergens are lurking just under your feet. If your home has wall-to-wall carpet and you have the money to do some remodeling, rip it out and replace it with hardwood or tile floors. That way, you can greatly limit the number of allergens in the air. If new flooring is not currently an option, at least try to vacuum your carpets once daily.

Of course you could simply to avoid all triggers; however, this might become a bit problematic if you ever want to go to the park or pet a dog. Learn to live the lifestyle you want to by educating yourself and discovering the options to relieving your suffering from your allergy problems. You do not have to suffer from constant allergy symptoms; take control of your life!
